Don’t Just Bookmark This — Calendar It: Five Money Days To Jumpstart Your Financial Routine
There was a time I thought my money would just figure itself out.
I had the budget apps, the planners, even color-coded stickers. But somehow, my money still felt like a mystery.
It wasn’t that I didn’t make enough — it was that I didn’t have a system to manage what I made.
I remember sitting at my kitchen table one night, laptop open, two tabs of my checking account, trying to make sense of where the money was actually going. I wasn’t broke… but I was tired of not feeling in control.
That’s when I realized — I didn’t need another budgeting trick. I needed a money rhythm. Something I could stick to, not just start.
That’s how I came across these five simple “Money Days.”
I didn’t create them, but when I saw them, I knew they were the kind of structure that could help people like us — folks who are doing the best they can, trying to stretch a dollar, build savings, and not feel guilty about a coffee run. The same way that you research your skin care and build a routine, is the same way you have to do your money. You’re creating a routine, a habit.
Because here’s the truth:
It’s not about how much you make.
It’s about how you handle what you keep — and how consistently you handle it.
These Five Money Days gave my money life structure.
They turned my scattered money moments into a solid SOP — a Standard Operating Procedure for my financial life.
And now, I teach my clients the same rhythm. Because when your money has a system, your goals stop being “someday” and start being scheduled. You can take from these days and create your own or get help to get one personalized for you!
The Five Money Days That Changed How I Manage My Money
1. Money GPS Day
Think of this like your budget “reset.” It’s where you check your map before you start driving.
You set your budget, align it with your goals, and make sure your spending direction matches where you actually want to go.
Action Step:
Put this on your calendar once a month — usually at the start. Treat it like you would a work meeting. This is where you look at your upcoming expenses, paydays, and goals side-by-side.
2. Pulse Day
This is your admin day — your “check the dashboard” moment.
You’re reviewing due dates, confirming your auto transfers went through, and making sure you’re not missing any alerts from your bank.
Action Step:
Set this for mid-month. You can do it in 10 minutes.
Review your calendar and see what payments or transfers are coming up.
That small check-in keeps you from scrambling later.
3. Money Review Day
This is the double-check.
Twice a month, I sit down to see if my budget is still working. Because life changes. Gas goes up. Plans shift. We adjust.
It’s your chance to make real-time tweaks instead of realizing at the end of the month that your budget ghosted you.
Action Step:
Set two repeating reminders on your phone — one around payday, another at mid-month.
You’ll catch leaks before they turn into money floods.
4. Learners Are Earners Day
This one is my favorite.
Because even as a Financial Planner, I’m always learning.
Once a month, I spend time reading, listening, or watching something that helps me sharpen my money game.
It could be a YouTube video, a financial article, or even revisiting one of my own old budget breakdowns with fresh eyes.
Action Step:
Add this to your weekend. Maybe a Saturday morning, or whenever you do your self-care.
Commit to 15 minutes of financial learning. The more you learn, the more you earn — and not just in dollars, but in confidence.
5. Month-End Review
This is your scoreboard moment.
You look at what worked, what didn’t, and what you want to do differently next month.
This day taught me how to reflect with purpose.
Because every number tells a story — you just have to listen.
Action Step:
Last day of the month. Put it on repeat.
Open your statements, write down what surprised you, and celebrate your wins — no matter how small.
Don’t Just Bookmark This — Calendar It
The same way that Millennials say that if it’s not only my calendar, it doesn’t exist. Is the same way you have to be with your money. Saving tips and screenshots is cute, but how does it create a culture with your money — they usually end up buried in your camera roll between a meme and a vacation reel.
If you want this to work, you have to give it space.
Actually add it to your calendar.
Put reminders on your phone.
Set alerts like it’s a meeting you can’t miss — because it’s not just about knowing what to do, it’s about doing it.
And once it’s on your calendar, follow through.
When the reminder pops up, don’t swipe it away.
Sit down and do the thing. Open your accounts. Adjust your transfers. Review your budget.
Here’s how to build your rhythm/routine around it:
Start small, then stack.
Add one or two Money Days first — maybe your GPS Day and your Month-End Review. Once you’re consistent, layer in the others.Pick a time/day that works for you.
Maybe it’s with your morning coffee or during your Sunday reset. Find your calm window and protect it.Pair it with something you already do.
Link it to payday, Transaction Tuesday, Transfer Thursday, or even your grocery planning day. The easier it is to pair, the easier it is to stick. You know that you use that retional on certain days or even get your oil changed every 3K, the same goes for your dough.
Consistency is the real money move here. The same way you didn’t get to where you are overnight, it’s the same way to pivot with purpose.
When you start doing what’s on your calendar, that’s when your money starts working for you — not the other way around.
Why I Believe In This System
I’ve worked with brands and communities that know how to connect with their people — not just to sell, but to shift habits.
And that’s how I approach money, too.
When people understand their flow, they can finally build toward “more.”
More peace. More savings. More freedom.
This system isn’t just about managing money — it’s about managing yourself. Yes, it’s cool to have that app, that saved reel - but you can do this!
And when you build your own version of it, that’s when things start to click.
